As part of United Utilities improvements to Southport WwTW a new state of the art gas bag retention system has been installed to replace the traditional gas holders. Methane produced from sludge treatment will be stored in the bag and this gas will then be turned into electricity to help power the plant and will help reduce carbon emissions.

Eric Wright Water commissioned PaSCoE to design the unique civil infrastructure to support the gas bag process including the gas bag RC base, the condensate pit, the flare base, and access steelwork.
