News » BS8002 and BS8004 to be brought back into use

Following the introduction of BS EN 1997-1:2004 Eurocode 7 Geotechnical Design both BS 8002:1994 Code of Practice for Earth Retaining Structures and BS 8004:1986 Code of Practice for Foundations were partially superseded and eventually withdrawn in 2010.

Eurocode 7 is general in nature and the extensive UK design recommendations and guidance contained within the British Standards has not been replaced following their withdrawal.

BS 8004 will be brought into use again following a revision and the removal of content conflicting with Eurocode 7 and its UK National Annex.

BS 8002 will be brought into use again through a revision, the removal of content conflicting with Eurocode 7 and its UK National Annex and through bringing it in line with PD 6694-1:2011, Recommendations for the Design of Structures Subject to Traffic Loading to BS EN 1997-1:2004 Guidance and Recommendations for the Design of Earth Retaining Structures.
