Over the festive period Balfour Beatty Rail Limited (BBR) has been busy reinstating Queen’s Drive at Birmingham New Street Station. As part of the phase 1 works, an opening was made in the Queen’s Drive slab to install a tower crane. With the phase 1 works complete, and the tower crane removed, BBR had the task of infilling the tower crane opening above live platforms.
The infilling works involved the demolition of the existing precast beams and the installation of new precast beams and insitu concrete, again over live platforms.
PaSCoE provided a number of temporary works designs to enable the safe reinstatement of the slab including demolition sequencing, scaffold crash deck, crane loading assessment, and precast beam propping.
To date PaSCoE have undertaken over 150 separate temporary works designs for the Birmingham New Street and Moor Street projects.
