News » A142 Ely Southern Bypass Temporary Bridge Jacking and Restraint to Allow Bearing Replacement

The Ely southern bypass is a new road connecting the A142 at Angel Drove to Stuntney Causeway, including bridges over the railway line and the River Great Ouse and its floodplains. The Bypass will ease congestion in and around Ely by providing a new link between Stuntney Causeway and Angel Drove to the south of the city.

During construction it became apparent the new north bearing on the intermediate pier on the Rail Overbridge had been damaged and needed to be replaced.

Working to an extremely tight deadline to ensure the new road opened without delay Freyssinet Ltd commissioned PaSCoE to undertake the design of the temporary jacking and bridge restraint to allow the bearing to be removed and a new bearing to be installed.

Main contractor Volker Fitzpatrick – “thanks to you and your team in getting this achieved safely with such a tight timescale. It’s been a very professional performance in design, management and operations”.
